Did you know that 1 in 4 children in Watauga County struggle with food insecurity?
The Hunger and Health Coalition has worked for years to help ensure children within Watauga County are getting enough to eat. The Backpack Program is a safe, confidential way to get food in the hands of one of the most vulnerable populations in the area.
HOW TO SIGN UP
Contact your child's guidance counselor or teacher for more details. Every effort will be made to keep all information confidential. The Backpack Program operates under anonymity to protect the privacy of both the child and parents as food insecurity and poverty are often stigmatized in our society.
Food packs are given out discreetly to the children on Friday's so that the child and family has enough to eat over the weekend and on holiday's.
